The Problem & Background

The customer had a screw conveyor with a hole leaking coolant. They had tried a weld repair, but it didn't work and the leak simply continued.

The impact of a coolant leak goes well beyond the leak itself:

  • The machine stops — the coolant leak lets heat build up, shutting the machine down.
  • Knock-on line stoppages — one machine stopping triggers other connected lines to stop as well.
  • Safety & environmental risk — a sticky floor causes slip accidents and steadily degrades the factory environment.

Welding couldn't stop it, yet leaving it alone wasn't an option — they needed a way to reliably seal the leak on site.

Product Adopted: UV-Curing Repair Material "LeakAid"

The customer adopted the UV-curing repair material "LeakAid Complete Kit (LL-100-LACK)". Apply LeakAid to the leak, shine the dedicated UV light on it, and it cures in just 1 second — a material built for field repair that seals holes and leaks on the spot, with no need to disassemble the equipment.

Repair Procedure

The whole repair took just 5 minutes. The steps were as follows:

  1. Scuff the repair area with a file (roughen the surface).
  2. Apply LeakAid.
  3. Cure it with the ultraviolet (UV) lamp.
  4. Done.

Result

The hole was large and seemed difficult to repair, but when we checked after the work, the coolant leak had stopped beautifully. Even weeks later, it had not leaked again.

This repair also confirmed that LeakAid bonds well to both metal and resin.
