Permatex 565 General Purpose Thread Sealant PTX-56521

PERMATEX 565 / PTX-56521

High Performance / PTFE Up to 2 in. NPT 50 mL Tube

Permatex High Performance Thread Sealant (PTX-56521) is a smooth, white paste-like compound with PTFE formulated for fast, responsive curing on metal pipe threads and fittings. The PTFE controls lubricity to assist assembly and torque tightening. Replaces tape and pipe dopes. Cures rapidly to withstand 10,000 psi within 24 hours. Prevents galling and protects mated threaded surfaces from rust and corrosion. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces. Recommended for metal tapered pipe threads up to 2" NPT in industrial applications - chemical processing, petroleum refining, pulp/paper, waste treatment, textile, utilities/power generation, marine, automotive, industrial equipment, gas compression and distribution. Not recommended for use on plastic piping. NSF White Book registered.

NSF White Book registered / not for plastic piping

Five Key Strengths of 565

Quick Fixture

Fast, responsive cure

Fast fixture time on metal pipe threads. Reacts faster and stronger with Active Metals; reaches 10,000 psi within 24 hours.

High Pressure

10,000 psi pressure resistance

10,000 psi at 3/8 NPT after 24-hour cure at 75°F. Immediate low-pressure sealing also possible for fast turnaround.

PTFE Content

Anti-galling with controlled lubricity

PTFE controls torque/tension ratio during assembly. Prevents galling and protects threaded surfaces from rust and corrosion.

Wide Range

Up to 2 in. NPT

Recommended for metal tapered pipe threads up to 2" NPT (over 2" requires Surface Prep activator + 48 hr cure).

Temp / Solvent Resistant

-65 to +300°F / chemical resistance

Operating range -65 to +300°F. Resistant to gasoline, oil, water, glycol, hydraulic fluid, and freon. NSF White Book registered.

HOW TO USE

How to Use

1

Clean the threads

Remove oil, water, contamination, and any old sealant from both male and female tapered threads. Degrease with cleaner if needed.

2

Apply around the male thread

Leaving the first thread free, apply a continuous bead around the male threads. For larger fittings, apply a thin film to the female threads as well.

3

Assemble to spec torque

Tighten with standard wrenches to the proper torque. Curing begins immediately as air is excluded.

4

Pressure test

Low-pressure leak testing can be performed immediately after assembly. Allow ~24 hours for full strength before high-pressure operation.

For Cleanup

  1. Wipe off any uncured material outside the joint with a dry cloth.
  2. Clean hands with Permatex Fast Orange® hand cleaner or soap and water.
  3. Cured material must be removed with Permatex Gasket Remover.

Typical Applications
